The wild plants<\/a> on the farm are attractive to animals, which are attractive to other animals, all of which help plants to spread and grow.<\/em><\/p>\n

Birds<\/h3>\n

Wild birds are always around and sometimes easier to hear than to see.<\/p>\n

A big group moving across the sky might be migrating cranes, looking for a change of weather.<\/p>\n

Raptors circle overhead on any sunny day, looking for lunch.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Songbirds occupy tree branches, singing to claim their spots.<\/p>\n

Mammals<\/h3>\n

Wild mammals leave obvious traces, showing where they have walked or eaten or slept, but they themselves are usually difficult to see.
\nA game camera has captured these examples.<\/p>\n

White-tailed deer are natives.<\/p>\n

Axis deer were imported to the area almost 100 years ago; now they roam wild, too.<\/p>\n

Insects and spiders<\/h3>\n

Insects are small. The best way to see them is to move slowly and look carefully: look down at small plants<\/a> and up at the trees and sky<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is a Red Admiral<\/strong> butterfly, Vanessa atalanta<\/em>, resting on a branch of juniper (locally called cedar).<\/p>\n

Spiders are also small but are not insects. They are easy to find, where the sky<\/a> touches the trees.<\/p>\n

Reptiles<\/h3>\n

Lizards are definitely around, camouflaged and holding so still they seem invisible, or visible but moving too quickly to photograph. Snakes must be here, too, somewhere in the tall grass.<\/p>\n
